Buying Presents For My Best Friend

Today was an amazing day for me. I got to buy my best friend the bike of my dreams.

It's one thing to buy yourself something nice once and a while, but it is far more rewarding to research and anticipate the giving of an epic gift to a special loved one.

I have been into mountain biking my whole life. I let it slip for a few years because I was so busy with work but this summer I decided to drop back into the sport. I spoke to a friend who owns a bike shop in Boise and learned that Niner (one of the great American MTB builders) was releasing their new product line in August of 2016. They had offered all their dealers first dibs on their remaining inventory and the rest they pushed to online wholesalers like Backcounty/Competitive Cyclist.

It all started with a frame. A gorgeous full carbon work of art. With new inventory on the way, the chance to buy a dream bike at a steal is happening this July 4th weekend. I haven't seen deals this amazing ever. Greg at Competitive Cyclist was a wizard bike builder and helped me configure this new steed with just what was needed and nothing that was not - such as a front derailleur - who needs all that mess up front anyway? I don't have any pics yet since the bike hasn't shipped but the stock images are pretty close.

The bike is a beauty and should serve my wonderful wife for the next decade easily. We will be tearing up the single-track over the long weekend up in McCall Idaho and will be sure to snap some pics of the trails. Let me know if you too are a MTB fanatic and what you are riding. We demoed the Ibis Ripley, and the Evil Following before settling on the RIP 9 RDO. What settled it for us was the comfort Niner engineered into their 29 inch geometry. In our opinion, nothing comes close.

I can't wait to be biking with Jen! Oh yeah, forgot to mention, I got one too!
